Cops seek duo in Bandidos torture case

CARY CASTAGNA, SUN MEDIA

WINNIPEG -- Police are looking for two more suspects in an abduction
and torture case that is linked to the Bandidos outlaw motorcycle
club. Billy Joe Ducharme, 22, and John Adam Curwin, 22, are wanted for
a violent incident early last month in the city's west end that left a
20-year-old man with severe injuries.

Although two alleged members of Winnipeg's probationary Bandidos
chapter have already been arrested in the case, police weren't saying
whether the two fugitives are also tied to the criminal organization.

"To say that they're associated to them (the Bandidos) would be
improper. We don't know if they are," police spokesman Const. Bob
Johnson said.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on Feb. 8, a 20-year-old man was run off the road
and forced into a snowbank. The victim was dragged from his vehicle by
several males known to him, beaten and taken to an undisclosed
Winnipeg address, where he was held captive for several hours and
tortured, police said.

The victim was treated in hospital for extensive injuries - including
reportedly having a finger cut off - but has since been released.

Ron Charles Burling, 34, was arrested Feb. 10, while Jason Llewellyn
Michel, 25, was arrested Feb. 15 in Calgary. Both men, believed to be
probationary Bandidos members, are charged with aggravated assault and
abduction.

Ducharme appeared in court on Dec. 8 where he was convicted of assault
in connection with domestic violence charges, court records show. He
was sentenced to time already served.

Last April 15, Curwin was convicted of break, enter and theft, theft
under $5,000 and assault with a weapon. He was sentenced to six months
in custody and one year of supervised probation.

He is scheduled to appear in court on March 29.

It'll be interesting to see how one gang (the cops) goes after another new
gang (bandidos).

It may end up in a lovefest, once seen how much they have in common.

Police have tracked down one of two men wanted in connection with an
abduction-and-torture case that has links to the outlaw Bandidos biker
gang. Billy Joe Ducharme, 22, and Josh Adam Curwin, 22, were put on
the Winnipeg Police Service's wanted list following a violent incident
in early February that left a 20-year-old man with severe injuries.

CHARGED

Yesterday, police announced that Ducharme had been picked up at a
residence in the 1100 block of Notre Dame Avenue Saturday night, and
charged with abduction, forcible confinement and aggravated assault.

The were still looking for Curwin yesterday, and have asked anyone
with information related to his whereabouts to contact police at
986-6048 or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.

Their arrest warrants relate to a Feb. 8 incident, when a 20-year-old
man was run off the road and forced into a snowbank while driving near
Sargent Avenue and Toronto Street just before 3 a.m.

The victim was dragged from his vehicle by several men he didn't know,
then beaten and taken to an undisclosed Winnipeg address, where he was
held captive for several hours and tortured, police said at the time.

He was treated at hospital for extensive injuries -- including
reportedly having a finger cut off -- but has since been released.

Two alleged members of Winnipeg's probationary Bandidos chapter -- Ron
Charles Burling, 34, and Jason Llewellyn Michel, 25 -- were arrested
in February in Calgary, and charged with aggravated assault and
abduction in connection with the incident.

Police have not confirmed whether Ducharme and Curwin also have ties
to the motorcycle club.
